We can all feel it… the heat, the kinda better traffic sitch in the city, the recently concluded Holy Week activities, the heat… You know what that means.
Summer is here!
We all know how planning family vacations can be so challenging (and nerve-wracking to some, especially to us Moms or Titas or heads of the family), and its good to get a few good insights on which places are the most appropriate for you to visit.
Thus, we hereby present, tadah!, a series on summer escape places you may actually want to try out. We’ll try to present choices from a broader range in terms of price and location, though mostly in our wonderful Philippine islands, for you to consider.
For a first offering, we present a beautiful destination, Siquijor!
Siquijor is known as the mystic island located in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. Stories about witchcraft, mysticism and other supernatural tales have been traded about this island. A lot of interesting folklore, yes, but beautiful nature and culture abound, as well.
How to get there: plane and ferry
Things to do: swimming, nature-tripping, sight-seeing, quiet time
Budget for lodgings: from PhP500 – PhP3,500 a night, depending on your choice of resort/hotel
Suggest side trip: Dumaguete (while waiting for your plane or ferry transfers)
Interesting find/s: Love potions to take home to your spinster friends (teehee.)
Of course, as always, we have to remember to respect our surroundings and the new people we meet along the way. This is the most basic of all rules. No need to remind you of this, right, friends?
For a Mom-and-Daughter outing, this trip set me back for around PhP15,000 (US$325) for both my teenager and I, round-trip fare tickets included, not to mention a quick day trip to Dumaguete.
It was a beautiful, refreshing 4-day trip for us, away from the rat-race and all its electronic/gadget trappings.
Take a peek at some of the things we experienced there. Maybe this trip is for you.
And no, we did not encounter any mystical creatures. 🙂
